Car insurance

In Arizona, every registered vehicle is required to carry liability insurance, which covers damage you might inflict on someone else or their property. The minimum limits are 15/30/10 BI/PD coverage - which means $15,000 bodily injury liability per person, $30,000 per accident and $10,000 in property damage liability per accident.

Un- and Under-insured Motorists Coverage had to have been offered to you when you purchased the policy, but you can reject it if you want. This is for you or your passengers' injuries caused by another driver whose BI liability limits are insufficient to cover your medical costs.

If you have a loan on your vehicle, your bank may require that you carry Comprehensive and Collision coverage (also called Physical Damage coverage) for damage to your own vehicle regardless of fault. This generally covers the value of your vehicle at the time of the loss and can be subject to a deductible.

Medical Payments, Towing and Labor, and Rental Car Reimbursement are all optional car insurance enhancements.

While it is tempting to simply take the cheapest option, keep in mind that any major accident could easily exceed $10,000 in damage, and one hospital stay can quickly surpass the minimum AZ bodily injury limit of $15,000.

We usually recommend finding the highest liability limits available within your desired price range. Considering there is no cap on lawsuit rewards in Arizona, if you happened to be put in a position where you became liable for someone else's damage, any amount exceeding your selected liability limits would need to come out of your own pocket.

Non-Owner Insurance

A Named Non-Owner Policy can provide Liability, Un/Under-insured Motorists and Medical Payments Coverage for someone who does not own a car. The policy would cover damage to others after an accident you cause, but there wouldn't be any Physical Damage coverage for the vehicle you are driving, unless provided by the owner.

We can also offer auto policies and non-owner policies with SR-22 filings. This filing is sometimes required by the State after a citation and can be added to any auto insurance policy for a minimal fee.

Pay-Per-Use Auto Insurance

Surely by now you've heard of the usage-based insurance programs that are hitting the market lately.

If not, we'll have to have a long hard talk with our pal, Flo.

Usage-based insurance programs, or Pay-As-You-Drive Insurance programs, reward good driving habits with a permanent discount on the participating vehicle, sometimes up to 30% of that vehicle's premium for as long as that vehicle is on the policy.

The technology that allows this is a small device inserted into your car's OBD-II port (the port that mechanics use when you take your newer car in for work or emissions testing) for several months. It records your engine activity taking note of events like hard stops, rapid acceleration, total number of miles driven and the time of day driven. Vehicles driven frequently between midnight and 4am, as well as vehicles in a lot of stop-and-go traffic may not yield the best available discount.
